Cherry Coconut Yogurt Bites are a healthy high-protein & low sugar frozen fruit dessert. Made with just 3 ingredients– frozen cherries, yogurt & maple syrup–they are easy to make and great for everyone!

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “What do I do with frozen fruit besides making a smoothie?”, then this frozen fruit dessert is for you! These Cherry Coconut Yogurt Bites are a great healthy dessert recipe made with frozen (or fresh) pitted cherries, coconut yogurt and a dash of sweetener.

This little bite combines the sweetness of cherries with the richness of coconut yogurt. It’s just 3 simple ingredients and doesn’t require any baking. Involve the kids too, and they won’t even know they are eating a totally healthy dessert.

Frozen cherries might not be on your “to buy” list, but they should be! They are naturally sweet and affordable. Plus, they are frozen at the peak of freshness, so they taste delicious all year round!

If you have fresh cherries, feel free to use them as well! But I always keep my fridge stocked with frozen fruit, so I can make a smoothie [Check out this list of 20 smoothie recipes] or frozen dessert any time of the year.

How is this different than ice cream?

Although you may think a frozen fruit dessert is just ice cream in disguise, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Ice cream usually contains high fat and calorie ingredients, like cream, sugar, egg yolks, and add-ins, like chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc. That’s why ice cream tastes so good, but is also not so good for you. A 2/3 cup serving of ice cream can have more than 300 calories and 20+ grams of fat (not the good kind).

On the other hand, this frozen fruit dessert uses high-protein Greek yogurt, which is lower in calories and fat. That means it adds a creamy flavor to the dessert without all the unnecessary calories or saturated fat.

Plus, this frozen dessert has whole cherries, which are loaded with inflammation fighting antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients for these Cherry Coconut Yogurt Bites

To make this you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup cherries (fresh or frozen) pitted
  • 2 5.3 ounce containers coconut flavored Greek or Skyr Yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or agave)
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut optional

Ingredient Swaps & Substitutions

  • Maple Syrup: If you don’t have maple syrup, you can swap it with honey.
  • Coconut Flavored Greek Yogurt: If you’re not a coconut lover, you can swap the coconut flavored yoghurt with a plain or vanilla flavored yoghurt.
  • Dairy Yogurt: Make this recipe vegan by replacing the coconut flavored greek yoghurt with a plant-based alternative like a coconut or almond yoghurt. This may alter the consistency and taste slightly.
  • Cherries: If you can’t get your hands on fresh or dried cherries, you can also use canned cherries or replace it with any other stone fruit like apricots, plums, nectarines or blackberries.

How to make these Cherry Coconut Yogurt Bites

To make this fruity dessert, all you need is a food processor and a muffin tin. It’s that easy!

Before making these bites, I recommend buying a good coconut flavored Greek or skyr yogurt. I like the siggi’s brand, Chobani or Trader Joe’s.

Here’s how to make them:

  1. Puree the cherries in a food processor.
  2. Combine yoghurt and maple syrup in a small bowl.
  3. In a muffin tin, alternate between a layer of the yogurt mixture followed by a layer of cherries to make a beautiful swirl. Repeat until the muffin tins are filled.
  4. Sprinkle each bite with shredded coconut (optional).
  5. Freeze for at least 2 hours.

How to store

After letting these yogurt bites freeze for at least two hours in the muffin tin, remove them from the tin and store in freezer bag. They will stay good for up to a 1 month.

Personally, I love the Stasher bags (affiliate link) because they are reusable and freezer friendly. And you can flip them inside out and stick in the dishwasher for an easy clean.
