The hectic holiday season is upon us! It’s time for eating, drinking and celebrating all things merry. But it’s hard to enjoy yourself when you’re spending all day and night in the kitchen. This year, why not take it easy on yourself and incorporate some simple yet tasty dishes into your holiday plan?

This Blueberry Cheesecake Dip is a 5-ingredient dessert that is made with foods you probably already have on hand. It doesn’t require any baking, tastes fantastic and will definitely be a crowd pleaser. Because after standing over a hot oven to make appetizers, mains and side dishes, no one has time to make a dessert.

Oh, and did I mention that this dessert is made with some really nutritious ingredients, like frozen blueberries and Greek yogurt? So it’s better for you than many other traditional holiday desserts.

The benefits of frozen blueberries

Frozen foods get an unwarranted bad reputation. Let’s clear up some of that confusion. Frozen blueberries are picked at the peak of ripeness and individually quick-frozen. This helps to preserve their taste, durability and nutritional components. There are absolutely no additives or preservatives added to frozen blueberries– it’s just the good old berries you love!

Just like fresh, frozen blueberries contain beneficial vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese and potassium. They are a good source of fiber and have just 80 calories per cup.

Blueberries also contain a category of phytonutrients called polyphenols. This group includes anthocyanins, which are compounds that give blueberries their gorgeous blue color.

Personally, I always have a few bags of frozen blueberries in my freezer for baking, whipping up Blueberry Pancakes or adding to smoothies. They are a convenient and cost-effective way to help you eat nutritiously and meet the recommended daily intake of fruit.

Plus, having frozen blueberries on hand is a huge time-saver since you can buy them well in advance of using them.

How to make Blueberry Cheesecake Dip

Although this recipe sounds fancy (cheesecake takes a lot of time to perfect!), it’s actually incredibly easy to make. With just 5 simple ingredients, this Blueberry Cheesecake Dip comes together in minutes.

First, run the frozen blueberries under cold water for a minute or two. This will thaw them really quickly so your dip isn’t too frosty. Then combine with protein-rich Greek yogurt, powdered sugar, lemon zest and lemon juice.

There is something about the taste of blueberries and lemon together that is just magi! Here’s a little known fact– lemon zest is used for adding lemon flavor to recipes. You want to make sure you don’t get the white part of the lemon rind because that tastes bitter. When zesting, only use the yellow part of the lemon peel.

Lemon juice, on the other hand, adds acid to a dish. Even in a sweet recipe like this, a little bit of acid brings out the flavor.

You don’t need all that much sugar in this dessert recipe because blueberries add natural sweetness to the dessert. And a little powdered sugar goes a long way.

Throw all of these ingredients into a food processor and pulse until combined.

What should I serve the dip with?

The dipping vessel is just as important as the dip! Here are a few suggestions of foods to serve with this yummy Blueberry Cheesecake Dip:

  • Pita chips
  • Apple slices
  • Pineapple slices
  • Graham crackers
  • Crusty baguette
  • Seedy crackers

Do you have another idea for a dipping vessel? I’m all ears! Let me know in the comments below.

Lastly, I think this dip makes a great dessert all year round. It’s perfect for the holidays, but it’s also great for birthday parties or summer BBQ’s. Once you see how easy it is to make, I guarantee it will be part of your dessert repetoire.

This sounds lovely! Do you need to drain the frozen blueberries before pulsing?

No you don’t need to. I used the blueberries right out of the bag. But if you do drain them, the dip will likely be creamier. I hope you enjoy. Tell me how you like it!
